Chondromalacia Patella

Chondromalacia patella is often referred to as runner’s knee because of when the pain commonly occurs. It is usually characterized by pain on the underside of the kneecap. Although it may feel like it came on suddenly, it is often something that has slowly built up over time, and may be due to:

  • Alignment issues at the hip, knee, ankle and foot
  • Decreased core strength
  • Poor timing of activating the core during certain movements.

How Angela Simpson Physiotherapy Can Help:

  • Test the strength of muscles surrounding the knees and hips, including the core
  • Determine what may be the main cause of the stress under the knee caps
  • Try different movement strategies that will take the stress off the knee caps and give the client less pain with movement
