Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is pain at or surrounding the knee cap, often due to muscle imbalances in the spine, hips and lower body, or to repetitive stress on the joint, such as running/jumping. The symptoms can sometimes be similar to chondromalacia patella, but may be a bit more vague with pain occurring in various areas surrounding the knee cap, versus underneath it.
How Angela Simpson Physiotherapy Can Help:
- Determine if the cause of the problem is due to a muscle imbalance at the knee and/or hips
- Determine if the cause of the problem is due to poor timing of recruitment of muscles during a specific movement task
- Treat the muscles that are weak and/or imbalanced to help correct the cause of the problem
