Rotator Cuff Tear

The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles that surround the shoulder joint and attach around the humeral head. There main role is to stabilize the shoulder joint both statically, and during movement (especially overhead).

How Angela Simpson Physiotherapy can help:

  • If the muscle is partially torn, often Physiotherapy will be the main treatment for this injury
  • Provide a proper re-strengthening program for the rotator cuff
  • Provide strategies for movement that put very little strain or stress on the rotator cuff, allowing it to heal properly while re-strengthening it
  • If the muscle(s) is/are torn completely, surgery may be required
  • Physiotherapy may be required both before and after surgery to help restore full range of motion and strength to the shoulder girdle complex
