Vulvodynia is vulvar pain that is usually described as burning, itching, stinging, irritation, or rawness. This pain is usually chronic, and the cause is often unknown. Some possible causes however are:

  • Increased tension/ spasm of the pelvic floor muscles
  • Diet deficiencies or excesses of certain fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds
  • Psychological component due to trauma, or abuse

  • Educate the client on the possible cause of the condition
  • Teach the client how to relax certain pelvic floor muscles, if needed
  • Teach the client proper timing of contracting and relaxing your pelvic floor muscles
  • Educate the client on possible dietary changes to help your condition
  • Educate the client on the use of certain modalities such as ice to help decrease the sensitivity of the area
  • Educate the client on the psychological, emotional components that may be contributing to the condition
  • Release muscles either internally and/or externally to help rebalance the pelvic floor muscles
  • Provide an exercise program to help with rebalancing the strength of the pelvic floor muscles
